  • I am homozygous for CTH genotype TT. Any supplements, tests of nutritional advice.

No need for IV as you can self inject a couple of times a week intramuscular. My NMD had me injecting but thought I should try nebulizing to improve my asthma and yes it works very well for asthma. I can also inject the same RX. One very noticable effect of the injections is I am able to sweat after an injection. This is an important issue for detox.

Glutamine would be problematic if you had GAD1 polymorphisms. I think we should all just get IV glutathione once a month :)

NAC is helpful but even at 1600mgs per day is not a "fix". Glutamine has been helpful. I use nebulized glutathione which gives a dramatic improvement. This must be prescribed and is compounded. The effects of course will depend on how many mitochondrial variants, methylation variants and detox variants you have. I do think NAC is essential.

NAC fixes a CTH++. A CTH++ means you are making about 60% less glutathione than you should. NAC ameliorates this.

Very good article re; taurine. I have been taking it for two weeks now and I am wondering what dose you are taking and how long you were taking it when you began to notice visual improvements. I have myopathy/ liver failure issues three homozygus NDUFS7,rs1142530, rs2332496, rs7258846 and other mitochondrial issues. The hydrocolabine has helped from day one which is a sublingual lozenge. I have glutamate issues herto for two genes GAD1. I avoid excitotoxins in food. I have herto rs1801131,17367504,17037390. There are so many variants in the methylation profile effecting folate. I have very different problems with low blood pressure and low blood sugar. Many variants for asthma. FUT2+/-. I have just received my DNA kit from Michigan and will send it in once I clear this flu bug. Meeting with my NMD tomorrow (he has an MD and additional training in nutrition and chelation). My liver function is problematic but I feel the taurine is very helpful.
      Nutrahacker is very helpful.

Here is an interesting article about Taurine.
      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3501277/
and how it can improve visual acuity, kidney function, and heart rhythm.
Cats cannot produce taurine in their transulferation pathway so taurine is like a vitamin to a cat, which have to get their taurine from their food(meat). Likewise humans who have this CTH gene SNP variant rs1021737 (TT(Fwd)) in the Transulferation pathway, may not produce enough taurine and need to get it from their food (like beef) or from supplements. Cat food is heavily supplemented with taurine; and taurine is easily produced in a factory, so it is cheap. I was cutting back on my meat and especially beef because I was starting to worry about cholesterol at age 60. I believe that started to cause problems with my visual acuity, kidney function and heart rhythm. The taurine supplement noticeably helped those problems

I also have some methylation pathway variants that slow down my methylation production.
      I have two MTHFR heterozygous variants: rs1801131(uncommon .067% GT(fwd)) and rs1801133 (common 39% AG(fwd)) aka C677T(rev),
which slows down my methylation pathway and almost certainly increases my homocysteine level.

Thank you! Yes I have the other variants you mentioned and I would love to hear about what you are doing. I do not have a background in this area but have been working on it for two years. I am about 60 and the same symptoms appeared about 60. My ND has me taking self injected glutathione and it is wonderful. I am changing B-vits to more bio-available forms, R-5-P, P-5-P, sulbutiamine. My last blood work had super high levels of B-12 which would indicate my liver is not using it. Gallbladder and liver flushes have helped (three cups of stones expelled) as well as dandelion root. My supplement use is intense. Adding more selenium did improve my sciatica. I will add taurine and biotin this week. Dr. Johnathan Wright has recommended 30,000mcg of biotin for MS for its affect on nerves including the optic nerve. Lets keep in touch!

In addition to 23andMe I have also given my health history to https://genesforgood.sph.umich.edu/
and was approved for their free genetic SNP test similar to 23andMe. I will be studying this more extensive result latter this year.

I also have the uncommon (4% homozygous) CTH homozygous variant rs1021737 (TT(Fwd)) in the Transulferation pathway CTH, 1364G-T, SER403ILE, which slows down the consumption of homocysteine and reduces the production of Taurine and Gluathione.
      http://www.snpedia.com/index.php/Rs1021737 aka 1364G-T,1208G>T
I used 23andMe, Livewello, Nutrahacker, and Promethease. Nutrahacker recommended I take taurine and selenium to help my apparently low levels of Taurine and Gluathione. (Gluathione supplements do not work well and only go to the liver and not other cell and tissues that might need it. Selenium helps recycle the glutathione you have in your cells and tissues.) I am in my 60s now and was always very healthy before. The taurine supplement noticeably improved my visual acuity, heart rhythm, and kidney function.
Research on PubMed confirmed what Nutrahacker recommended. I have lots more to say. I did my 23andMe report because I had a bad sciatica attack 2 years ago. Apparently caused by two MTHFR variants that slowed down my Methylation pathway, the CTH variant, and apparently a FUT2 immune variant that in combination with other issues resulted in my inability to digest B12 which I now get shots for. More later if ... More
